The next time you get x-rays taken at your local dental office, ask your dentist or dental assistant if he/she has tested their house for radon gas! Why? Because there is potential for more "radiation accumulation" through long term exposure to elevated levels of radon gas than can be obtained through a lifetime of dental x-rays! (see risk chart)
Many medical/dental offices
that currently offer x-ray services post notices requesting that patients inform
them if they are "pregnant". If there are potential liabilities
associated with exposure to x-rays for the unborn (and steps are taken to
minimize the risks), then all the more reason to approach "radon"
intelligently and get your house tested!
Think about that the next time the dental assistant puts that
"lead vest" across your chest!
